PSORIASIS

Psoriasis is a chronic condition due to an overactive immune system that causes itchy, red, scaly areas to form. It is most often found on the upper body, the knees and the scalp. The condition can come and go in periods of remission and active disease. Treatment often includes lifestyle changes and medical interventions from steroids to light therapy.

ECZEMA

Eczema is a chronic condition that results in patches of dry, red, itchy skin. It occurs most often in children but can linger into adulthood. Eczema can flare and go into periods of remission, and some people will outgrow the condition. Treatment often includes lifestyle changes as well as topical and oral medications and light therapy.

SKIN CANCER

Skin cancer is the abnormal growth of skin cells, often caused by prolonged exposure to the sun. Detecting skin cancer early is key to successful treatment. A simple exam by a dermatologist can assess any unusual patches of skin or moles to identify issues early. Treatment for skin cancer varies depending on the type of cancer.

WARTS

Warts are caused by a virus and can take as long as two to six months to appear after initial exposure to the responsible virus. Warts are generally harmless, but many people want to remove them because the growth can become itchy, rough, and/or bothersome. Treatment for warts varies from topical medication to freezing to minor surgery, depending on the type and location of the wart.

CYSTS

Cysts are small bumps that appear below the skin. They are often harmless but may require treatment if they interfere with movement or are in a noticeable spot. Other reasons for treatment include an infection or when a cyst bursts. Treatment options include an injection to reduce the swelling and inflammation, draining the cyst or minor surgery to remove the cyst.

SKIN INFECTIONS

Skin infections can occur for a variety of reasons, including bacterial or fungal infections. Skin infections can show up as boils, rashes or peeling skin. Minor infections can be fairly harmless, but some bacterial and fungal infections can lead to serious problems if left untreated. Treatment for skin infections includes prescription drugs and topical treatments, depending on the type of infection.

PEDIATRIC

Skin conditions can be especially troublesome for children and teenagers. Pediatric care goes beyond dealing with acne and can include treatment for birthmarks, skin infections, dermatitis, moles and inherited skin disorders. Treatment depends on the issue being treated and always includes compassionate care and talking with children on a level they can understand.
